Pune: A new survey has revealed some serious traffic jams in the city. The Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATMS) report shows congestion on 19 main roads and 125 intersections. This survey ran from December 1, 2024, to January 10, 2025.

The smart city department shared the findings with the Pune traffic police and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on January 16, 2025. They’re looking for ways to tackle these traffic issues.

Manoj Patil, the additional commissioner of police, mentioned that they’re working with social groups to find solutions. The ATMS system is already active at 125 chowks, where they’ve identified 12 types of traffic problems. These include unauthorized parking, narrow roads, and potholes.

Patil emphasized the need for a solid traffic regulation plan. Once the development plan is ready, it’ll be easier to coordinate with the PMC for solutions. The survey data will help address these long-standing traffic issues.

Recently, activist Qaneez Sukhrani sent a legal notice to the PMC. She criticized their planning of road infrastructure, calling it a waste of public funds. She pointed out that the PMC hasn’t responded to concerns about poor planning.

Sukhrani’s notice highlights the need for better infrastructure planning, especially around Ahmednagar Road. It’s clear that the citizens want improvements, and the authorities need to step up.
