Pune: So, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) is stepping in to check out some claims made by the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) about waste management in Hadapsar. They’ve put together a committee with folks from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to see what’s really going on.

This all started after the NGT saw a news report about open garbage burning in Hadapsar. They want to make sure the PCB is actually doing what they say they’re doing to prevent these issues. The committee has to visit the site and report back in three weeks.

In earlier discussions, the PMC and MPCB pointed out that the area is under the PCB’s control. The PCB claimed that the recent fire was just due to the hot summer weather and that they’ve got measures in place, like a fire engine and water lorry, to handle any future incidents. They even installed CCTV cameras to keep an eye on things.

After hearing all this, the NGT wants to confirm if the PCB’s actions are legit. They’ve scheduled the next hearing for March 24, 2025, to see what the committee finds out. It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds!
