Residents are urging the Pune forest department to finish hill safety work before the monsoon season hits
The NGT got involved after a news report highlighted worries from NIBM residents about forest destruction. They claimed it was causing serious civic problems. During a hearing, the forest department shared their findings, stating that no illegal activities were spotted during a site visit.
However, a resident pointed out that rainwater was causing soil erosion, leading to mud buildup in their area. She asked the forest department to take action to prevent this and complete a boundary wall that had been damaged. The department agreed to address the erosion and is working on a budget for soil and water conservation.
The NGT was pleased with the forest department’s response and emphasized the need to finish the safety work before the rains come.
