Pune’s civic body has successfully identified 7,777 new TB cases, achieving its 2024 target under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme.
The PMC has been working hard. In 2021, they reached 70% of their goal. Then, they improved to 84% in 2022 and 92% in 2023. Finally, they nailed it in 2024 with 100%.
Dr. Prashant Bothe, the city TB officer, shared that the state health department sets yearly targets. The goal is to find and treat as many new TB patients as possible. This year, they really stepped up their game.
Early detection is key. It helps patients get better faster and stops the spread of TB. The National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) aims to make sure people get diagnosed quickly and start treatment right away.
Private healthcare facilities played a huge role in this success. They helped notify the PMC about TB cases. This teamwork made sure that more patients got the care they needed.
The PMC also ran awareness campaigns and medical camps. They educated people about TB symptoms and encouraged early testing. Plus, they offer free diagnostic and treatment services, which is a big help for those in need.
To support patients, the Nikshay Poshan Yojana gives ₹500 a month for nutrition during treatment. This is crucial since poverty and malnutrition can increase the risk of TB. Overall, it’s a great step forward for Pune’s health!
