MSEDCL is rolling out free digital meters to enhance electricity billing and tracking for consumers in Pune and beyond
Pune: MSEDCL is making waves by offering free smart digital meters. These meters are for new connections and replacing faulty ones. They’re designed to make life easier for everyone.
With these smart meters, you can say goodbye to the hassle of manual readings. No more waiting for someone to come by each month. It’s all about convenience and accuracy.
Rajendra Pawar, the chief engineer, mentioned that these meters come with both prepaid and postpaid options. But don’t worry, the current billing system stays the same for now.
One cool feature is that you can check your electricity usage right on your phone. This means you’ll know exactly what you’re using and can avoid surprises on your bill.
Starting in April, if you have one of these new meters, you’ll be billed under a new system that offers lower rates during certain hours. Just make sure you have the TOD meter to take advantage of it.
Last year, there were some concerns about smart prepaid meters leading to higher costs. MSEDCL listened and decided to first test these meters in their own offices before rolling them out to everyone.
So far, they’ve installed nearly 31,000 TOD meters in the Pune area, including in government buildings and for solar setups. It’s all part of a bigger plan to modernize the electricity system.
With the help of various service providers, MSEDCL is ensuring that the installation process goes smoothly. And remember, you can still stick with postpaid billing if you prefer.
Overall, this move is set to make tracking your electricity usage a breeze, eliminating the guesswork and errors that come with manual readings.
