Pimpri-Chinchwad: A sad situation unfolded recently when a 64-year-old woman lost her battle with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). She was being treated at a local hospital when she passed away, making her the first reported death linked to this infection in the area.

Health officials say she had a known case of hypertension, which made her more vulnerable. The woman was diagnosed with the acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) variant of GBS, which affects the nerves and can lead to serious complications.

She had been admitted to a couple of hospitals before finally being transferred to PGI-YCMH. Unfortunately, despite receiving treatment, her condition worsened, and she developed respiratory issues.

Local health authorities are investigating the situation, especially since there’s been a rise in GBS cases recently. They believe contaminated water and food might be contributing to this spike.

As of now, there are other suspected cases being treated, and the health department is focused on identifying and treating patients early. It’s a tough time for the community, and everyone is hoping for better news soon.
