Pune: So, there’s been some concerning news from Poona Hospital. Two patients suspected of having Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) tested positive for a bacterial infection called Campylobacter jejuni. This infection is known for causing foodborne illnesses and can sometimes lead to GBS, which is a rare neurological disorder.

The patients, a 27-year-old and a 37-year-old, both from the same area, are currently in the ICU. Their tests showed the presence of this bacteria, which is often linked to poultry and can be found in animal waste.

Interestingly, there’s also a 55-year-old woman from the same neighborhood who tested positive for both Campylobacter and E. coli. Both of these bacteria can trigger GBS, so it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

Doctors are worried because there’s been a cluster of GBS cases linked to Campylobacter infections in places like Mexico and Arizona in the past. They suspect that the water supply in the Sinhagad Road area might be contaminated, especially since there have been hygiene issues reported with the local water supply.

It’s a good reminder to stay cautious about what we drink and eat. Let’s hope they get to the bottom of this quickly and keep everyone safe!
