The education department in Maharashtra is cracking down on unauthorised schools, urging swift action before the new academic year starts.
The order came from Deepak Chavane, the deputy director of education, who sent out a circular to various education officials. It’s all about following the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act. This law says that unauthorised schools can be fined up to ₹1 lakh, plus a daily penalty of ₹10,000 if they keep operating.
Chavane made it clear that action needs to be taken every year before school starts. This includes making a list of unauthorised schools and warning parents not to enroll their kids there. They’re also looking at legal steps to shut these places down.
The officials have been told to gather info on these schools and act fast. This could mean fines, filing police reports, or shutting them down completely. If any unauthorised schools are found, the education officers in charge will be held responsible.
Additionally, private schools must display their government recognition and affiliation details prominently. The government is serious about this. Schools without proper recognition or those that have moved without permission will be considered unauthorised. This move aims to protect children’s educational rights across the state.
