A recent cleanup drive in Pune gathered 130 kg of waste, highlighting community efforts to protect the Mula-Mutha River.
Captain Dixit was there and really stressed how important it is to keep plastic out of our rivers. He mentioned that over 200 million metric tons of waste gets dumped globally every year. That’s a huge number! It’s not just bad for the rivers but also for our health since plastic can stick around for thousands of years.
Commodore P.K. Malhotra also spoke up, sharing that the Indian Maritime Foundation has been doing these cleanup drives for over 15 years. He believes that if everyone pitches in, we can have cleaner rivers and a better environment. Plus, he got recognized for his hard work in protecting nature, which is pretty cool!
Rtn. Maithili Manakwad, who coordinates for Ocean Savers of India, highlighted how crucial it is to get young people involved. She thinks that getting the youth engaged will help them take responsibility for keeping our water bodies clean.
The event wrapped up with everyone making a promise to keep things tidy and protect our planet for the future. It’s all about teamwork and making a difference, one cleanup at a time!
