Pune: So, there’s a buzz about a proposed 15% hike in the ready reckoner rates for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. This is the rate the government uses to charge registration fees and stamp duty for property transactions. If this goes through, it’ll hit property prices hard.

The Inspector General of Registration and the state town planning authority are behind this proposal. They’re suggesting a 15% increase for the two cities, 12% for municipal councils, and 10% for rural areas for the upcoming financial year. If the state government gives the green light, these new rates will kick in on April 1.

Ravindra Binawade, the inspector general, mentioned that they’re still crunching the numbers. They’re looking at sales data from January to November to finalize the rates. A special meeting was held recently to discuss this hike, but it seems only one local MLA showed up to voice concerns.

That MLA, Bapusaheb Pathare, is pushing for a 50% cut in the proposed hike. He’s worried about the impact on areas with no development plans. It’s a hot topic, and many are watching closely to see how this unfolds.
