Pune’s disaster response team just got a boost with new vehicles to tackle emergencies more effectively
The PDRF was launched by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and aims to respond quickly to emergencies like landslides and accidents. With a budget of ₹5 crore from the state government, they’ve got 30 trained personnel ready to go.
Inspired by the Thane Disaster Response Force, this initiative is all about making Pune safer. The fleet includes a troop carrier bus, tempos, and pick-up vans, all showcased during the Republic Day celebrations. It was a big event, with several dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in attendance.
Looking ahead, there are plans to enhance the PDRF even further with more trained staff and advanced technology. The goal is to create a top-notch disaster management system that can respond quickly and effectively when needed.
With Pune growing rapidly, having a dedicated rescue team is crucial. While the National Disaster Response Force is available, local teams can get to emergencies faster, which is vital during those critical first moments. The PDRF is here to fill that gap and ensure the safety of Pune’s residents.
