Pimpri has penalized 221 construction companies for pollution, halting work on several projects due to non-compliance with environmental standards
With the city growing fast, more people and construction are popping up everywhere. But this growth has brought some serious issues like noise pollution and waste management. The local government has noticed that air and noise pollution have been getting worse, so they’ve rolled out new guidelines for builders. These rules include stopping work from 10 PM to 7 AM and making sure they manage waste properly.
It turns out many construction companies were ignoring their environmental duties. That’s why 221 contractors received notices. The “D” regional office was the busiest, sending out 61 notices and collecting a fine of ₹14,07,300.
On top of the fines, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is also halting construction in areas where companies aren’t following the environmental rules. Work in Wakad and Akurdi has been stopped. Sunil Bhagwani, an executive engineer, stressed the importance of reducing air and noise pollution and urged builders to adopt better environmental practices.
