The RESQ team is now leading the effort to relocate a tiger spotted in Solapur-Dharashiv, ensuring its safe return to the wild.
This tiger, just 2.5 years old, was born at the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary and was spotted in December at the Yedshi Ramaling Wildlife Sanctuary. The local forest departments have been keeping a close eye on it for about a month now.
The forest office in Nagpur had ordered the capture of this tiger to move it back to the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. The quick response team from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger project was called in to assist. But now, since they’ve returned to handle another task, the RESQ team is on the job.
According to NR Praveen, the chief conservator of forests, the RESQ team is fully in charge of this relocation. A senior official mentioned that the tiger looks healthy and has been feeding well, even taking down some cattle recently. They’re working on tranquilizing it for a safe capture.
The relocation squad is pretty robust, with 30 forest staff and eight RESQ members, plus a sniffer dog to help out. It’s a big effort to ensure this tiger gets back to where it belongs safely.
