The Butterfly Bridge project in Pune faces ongoing delays, with housing society approvals causing setbacks and rising costs.
One side of the bridge is still incomplete, and it’s hard to say when it will finally be finished. The delays are mainly due to issues with a nearby housing society, which raised objections and needed design changes. This has also made the project more expensive.
When it’s finally ready, the bridge should help ease traffic in the area. Right now, heavy vehicles can only use two existing bridges over the Pawana River, and one of them is too narrow for larger traffic. The new bridge will make it easier for folks traveling between Thergaon and Chinchwad.
A PCMC official mentioned that the housing society’s objections were a big part of the hold-up. After a meeting with the society and contractors, work started up again once they got the green light. However, the project costs have gone up because they had to raise the bridge’s height.
