A Pune student lost ₹10 lakh to scammers posing as beauty pageant organizers, promising her a chance at international fame.
Pune: A student got caught in a beauty pageant scam. She often joined contests and was excited when fraudsters reached out to her. They invited her to an event in Jaipur, claiming it was a big opportunity.
The scammers convinced her to send ₹10 lakh. They said it was for her passport, visa, and airfare. After the Jaipur event, they told her she was selected for a global competition. But when she got a travel ticket online, it was fake.
She checked the list of Indian representatives and her name wasn’t there. The fraudsters went silent after that. She even met one of them in New Delhi and Jaipur, but they refused to give her money back.
Feeling hopeless, she and her family filed a complaint with the Sahakar Nagar Police. An FIR was lodged under cheating charges. The police are now looking into the case.
This situation shows how important it is to be careful with such scams, especially for those chasing their dreams.
