Pune’s Regional Mental Hospital now offers emergency care on-site, easing patient transfers and improving treatment access.
Starting January 20, 2025, they set up treatment areas in both male and female wards. Each ward has three oxygen beds and all the necessary emergency gear. This change is expected to make things a lot smoother for patients needing urgent care.
Dr. Shrinivas Kolod, the medical superintendent, mentioned that transferring patients was tough on the staff. It added extra pressure, especially since SGH was already busy. Now, with trained staff at RMH, they can handle emergencies better and rely less on outside hospitals.
In the past, some patients had to wait a long time for treatment at SGH, even late at night. With this new facility, that should be a thing of the past. RMH has a total of 2,540 beds and sees around 400 patients daily in its outpatient department, which has extended its hours to better serve everyone.
