Pune: Early Monday morning, a car took a deadly plunge into a 500-foot gorge in Varandha Ghat. It was a shocking scene, with one person losing their life and eight others injured.

The car was heading from Mahad to Bhor when it veered off the road near a curve at Umbardewadi. The police are looking into what went wrong, suspecting driver error might be to blame.

The unfortunate victim was identified as 22-year-old Shubham Shirke from Janata Vasahat in Pune. The injured passengers, all from Pune, ranged in age from 22 to 29 and were quickly taken to Bhor Sub-District Hospital for treatment.

Local police and villagers jumped into action, helping with the rescue. They worked hard to get everyone out of the ravine and to safety. It’s a relief that the community came together like that.

According to Bhor Police Station in-charge Anna Pawar, the group was likely on their way to work when the accident happened. The driver seems to have misjudged the curve, leading to this tragic event. A case of rash driving has been filed, and the investigation is still ongoing.
