Pune NCC Cadets Embark On 1,680-km Cycle Expedition To Delhi From Shaniwar Wada

Inspired by the legendary Maratha warrior General Peshwa Bajirao I, who led a triumphant campaign from Pune to Delhi—winning 41 battles against the Mughals, Portuguese, and Nizam—the 1680-km expedition replicates this historic route. It shook the Mughal Empire’s foundations and expanded Maratha control into Malwa and Bundelkhand. NCC cadets, joined by youth from five states en route, will conduct awareness and sensitisation campaigns to mobilise communities around the ethos of ‘Nation First’ and reinforce Unity in Diversity.

Led by Brigadier Sachin Gawali, Group Commander, NCC Group HQ Amravati, the team comprises 12 passionate NCC cadets—including six girl cadets—and support staff. Selected through a rigorous process, the cadets completed an intensive three-month training schedule.

Ahead of the flag-off, cadets participated in impactful social service at Sinnar (Peshwa Bajirao’s birthplace) and Shaniwar Wada, organising blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, and shramdan activities. They also attended the Shaniwar Wada Light and Sound Show and sought blessings at Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple for the challenging journey. The expedition will promote messages of unity, road safety, fitness, and social responsibility among citizens along the route.

Major General Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Maharashtra, complimented the cadets on their hard work and determination, extending best wishes for the journey.

The flag-off event drew enthusiastic participation from youth, NCC cadets, and citizens, who cheered the team. Bollywood actor Mr. Vivaan Shah joined the cadets at Shaniwar Wada, praising their dedication and perseverance. He wished them good health, success, and memorable experiences, urging the public to cheer them, share their story, and celebrate the spirit of India’s young ambassadors for Viksit Bharat@2047.
