Despite the recent rain and mild temperatures, it looks like Quebecers might be in for a white Christmas after all.

In Montreal, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)’s weather forecast shows that snow is expected to begin at around noon on Tuesday with two to four centimetres expected.

The light dusting should be followed by more snow in the evening with as much as five centimetres possible.

The temperature is expected to remain below freezing, ensuring any snow cover won’t melt away before Dec. 25.

And while that snow might delight skiers and other winter enthusiasts, it could also make travel more difficult in some areas.

ECCC is forecasting snow for other parts of the province, with a special weather statement issued for the Gatineau area on Tuesday.

“Another Alberta clipper will impact the region beginning this morning,” the statement reads.

The region could see up to 10 centimetres of snow, but the agency is warning the snow could mix with freezing drizzle in the afternoon and continue into the evening, possibly impacting rush-hour traffic.

The weather agency is recommending people allow extra time for travel, as roads and walkways could become icy and slippery.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”

Protesters call for eviction of Mont-Sainte-Anne resort operators

After years of alleged mismanagement, locals, business owners and users of Mont-Sainte-Anne held a protest on Saturday – opening day. This comes after weeks of delays due to equipment issues.

For Quebec City, the first snowflakes are expected to hit the ground in the late afternoon. There too, ECCC expects accumulations of five centimetres during the evening and overnight.

The system is also expected to reach the Saguenay region starting Tuesday night into Wednesday, but snowfall accumulations are expected to be less significant, around two centimetres.
