Pune: Prashant Jagtap Steps Down As NCP Sharad Pawar Faction’s City President

According to sources, a coordination committee has been formed to explore the possibility of both NCP factions contesting the civic polls together in Pune. From the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, senior leaders including former MP Vandana Chavan, party spokesperson Ankush Kakade, and former standing committee chairman Vishal Tambe have been included in this committee. Notably, Prashant Jagtap, despite being the Pune city president, was excluded from the panel.

Following his exclusion, Jagtap convened a meeting with his supporters and office-bearers. During the discussion, a decision was taken to step down from his post, after which his resignation was formally submitted, senior party leaders said.

There is no official clarity yet on Jagtap’s future political move. However, speculation is rife that he may join the Congress party.

Prashant Jagtap had contested the last Assembly elections from the Hadapsar constituency in Pune. He lost narrowly to Chetan Vitthal Tupe of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction by a margin of around 7,000 to 8,000 votes.

With talks of a possible alliance between the two NCP factions gaining momentum ahead of the Pune civic polls, Jagtap’s earlier statement—that he would resign if both parties came together—has now become a reality, marking a significant moment in Pune’s political landscape.
