A man in his thirties is in serious condition after a “targeted” shooting in Kensington Market early Monday morning, according to Toronto police.

The shooting happened at 2:38 a.m. on Monday near College Street and Augusta Avenue, police said on social media.

The victim was brought to the hospital in life-threatening condition and his condition is still serious but is no longer life-threatening, according to Insp. Jonathan Rose.

“The preliminary information we have is that this was a targeted event,” Rose told reporters at a news conference later Monday morning.

Rose said there is no threat to public safety at this time. However, Rose said he understands locals will be concerned about the violence.

“We want to assure everybody that we are putting as many resources as we can toward this to locate the suspects and bring them into custody.”

Police are searching for two male suspects who left the scene on foot and were last seen heading eastbound on Oxford Street, Rose said.

Police are asking anyone with information or security or dash cam footage to contact them directly or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues, Rose said.
