Durham police have charged one man and are searching for a second, who is considered armed and dangerous, in connection with the region’s ninth homicide.

The Durham Regional Police Service said it was called to the area of Park Road S. and John Street in Oshawa around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, officers found a man on the roadway suffering from multiple stab wounds, Durham police said in a release Wednesday.

Jeremy Russel, 44, was transported to a Toronto trauma centre where he died from his injuries, according to police.

Durham police located the first suspect Tuesday. Nicholas Robbins, 33, from Oshawa, was charged with second-degree murder, according to Wednesday’s release.

Durham police are still searching for a second suspect, Michael Waterman. The 44-year-old is allegedly armed and dangerous.

Russel, Robbins and Waterman were known to each other, Durham police said.

According to a news release Tuesday, the Peterborough Police Service is also looking for Waterman in connection with a homicide on Dec. 6. That incident resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man, Peterborough police said.

Waterman is wanted for second-degree murder in Durham Region and in Peterborough.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them. Durham police said anyone who is assisting Waterman in evading police is guilty of an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and will be prosecuted.

Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward, Durham police said.
