Pune is facing a rise in GBS cases, prompting health teams to investigate and raise public awareness about the situation
They’ve found that people from Pune City, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and nearby rural spots like Nanded Gaon and Dhayari are affected. Dr. Babita Kamlapurkar mentioned that the Rapid Response Team is already in the field, collecting samples for testing.
No need to stress, though. The health department is ready with precautions. They’re also looking into whether past Zika virus cases might be linked to this rise in GBS.
The Prime Minister’s Office is keeping tabs on the situation, asking for updates from local officials. Dr. Nina Borade from the Pune Municipal Corporation noted that many patients had eaten or drunk from outside sources before getting sick.
Initially, they had stomach issues, but then came the sudden weakness, which is a key sign of GBS. To tackle this, 17 teams are out there doing surveillance in the affected areas, and they plan to ramp up their efforts soon.
GBS is a serious but treatable condition where the immune system attacks the nerves, leading to weakness and other symptoms. So, it’s good that health teams are on the ground, making sure everyone stays informed and safe.
