Pune: This year, the Pune Police made headlines by canceling 111 firearm permits. It’s the first time in five years they’ve taken such a step. They sent out notices to 200 license holders, asking them to explain why they still needed their permits. If the reasons weren’t good enough, the permits were canceled.

Most of these licenses were given to sports enthusiasts or people with legitimate claims to inherit firearms. But if someone was involved in criminal activities or didn’t renew their license, it was game over. Commissioner Kumar mentioned that this was part of their effort to keep things safe and responsible.

On top of that, the police also tightened the rules around liquor licenses. In 2024, they didn’t issue a single No Objection Certificate (NOC) for selling or transporting foreign liquor. Last year, they granted 16, and the year before that, 36. This year, they rejected 82 applications for liquor licenses, a big jump from just 12 last year.

All of this shows that Pune Police are serious about controlling firearms and liquor licenses. They want to make sure that public safety is a top priority. It’s a big change, and it looks like they’re really stepping up their game this year.
