Pune: The Deputy Commissioner of the PMC estate department, Mahesh Patil, has confirmed a new proposal. They’re thinking about transferring land ownership to the departments that currently occupy these lands. It’s still in the early stages, but they’re reviewing everything before making a final call.

For example, the PMC is considering a deal with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). They might offset electricity dues against the land’s value. This could save the civic body a good chunk of change.

The PMC has had a tough time collecting rent and taxes from these departments. They also face costs for utilities and other services. A senior official mentioned that even though the Development Plan sets aside land for public services, the PMC doesn’t get enough compensation. They’re also looking into swapping these plots for other lands owned by these agencies.

By transferring ownership, the PMC hopes to cut down on expenses and streamline how resources are managed. If this plan gets the green light, it could lead to significant savings while also supporting government services throughout Pune.
