Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is thinking about transferring land ownership for plots used by police stations, post offices, and electricity boards. Instead of charging rent, they want to offset these costs against the land value.

This idea comes as the PMC has had a tough time collecting rent from these departments. They’re looking to make things easier by officially handing over the land. For instance, they could balance the electricity dues from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company against the land cost.

Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Patil mentioned that they’re in the early stages of discussing this plan. They want to make sure they consider all angles before deciding. A senior official pointed out that while the PMC has to pay for these plots, they don’t get fair compensation when they hand them over to government departments.

They’re also thinking about swapping these plots for other land owned by the departments. The goal is to cut costs and make everything run smoother. Sounds like a smart move, right?
