Pune is facing a serious health crisis with 101 reported cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, prompting investigations into water contamination.
A team of health experts is heading to Pune to get a better grip on the situation. They’ve already broken down the cases by age, and it’s concerning. Kids under 9 years old have 19 cases, while those in their 20s have 20.
The areas hit hardest include Sinhagad Road, Khadakwasla, and Dhayari. To figure out what’s going on, water samples from various spots in Pune are being tested for any harmful substances.
Initially, 23 blood samples were sent for testing, but thankfully, they came back negative for dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. However, nine out of 11 stool samples from patients tested positive for norovirus, and some also showed a bacterial infection.
The health department is keeping a close eye on everything as they work hard to control this outbreak. It’s a serious situation, and everyone is hoping for a quick resolution.
